Lady Gilmore and Women in Need Ministries Adopt Family of Gunshot Survivor
Adapted from 19 Action News Interview with Michelle Nix
Well, it is a miraculous story we have covered from the beginning. A seven -year -old girl accidentally shot in the head back in May, not expected to survive. But not only did she survive, she beat the odds and now that young girl’s family now blessed by Secret Santa’s celebrating a miracle. Michelle Nix has the story. Call these women Santa’s helpers or Christmas angels.
Lady Gilmore’s Seventh Annual Toy Drive, along with Women in Need Ministries, have adopted this Cleveland family of seven children, not only for today and not just for Christmas, but into the future. When asked about the purpose for the toy drive and giving back, Lady D said, “We’re out here blessing those who really truly are in need and this is the time of year that we have to make a difference. Whatever family the Lord tell us to touch, that’s the family that we touch and bless.”
The charity organization’s first heard about the family in October on 19 News when I sat down with Justice Smith and her seven -year -old daughter, Nariah Gilner. A child who wasn’t expected to live after being accidentally shot in the head by a sibling back in May.
When she first heard about Nariah’s story, Lady Gilmore recalls her response saying, “I started crying. I said, oh my gosh, we need to get ahold of you and get your blessings to bless this family.” Nariah, who just had another successful operation, is now ready for another milestone, this one returning to school.
When asked what she is most excited about when it comes to her return to school, Nariah said, “I’m going to be happy to see my teachers again.” A young girl with a second chance at life who’s made remarkable strides with speech therapy and her writing. Presenting a picture she created she explains, “It says, I love my mom.” The second-grader is feeling blessed this Christmas and is excited about all her new toys.
Nariah’s mother is thankful for the gift of a sisterhood of women with generous hearts. She said to 19 Action News, “they have beautiful spirits I mean I know it all came from such a terrible situation but I appreciate everybody that like tries to make it better.” Faith, family, joy, and a miracle at Christmas that’s left children smiling, adults in tears, and plenty of reason to celebrate this season of giving. Merry Christmas everyone! Reporting in Cleveland, Michelle Nix 19 News
